The Institute for Medical Research, Inc. (IMR), is a non-profit, private research corporation established in 1989 in accordance with Section 204 of Public Law 100-322, which authorizes the Department of Veteran Affairs to establish private, non-profit organizations to serve as a flexible mechanism in support of research at VA Medical Centers. IMR was founded in Durham, North Carolina to support research specifically at the Durham VA Medical Center.

IMR provides a flexible funding mechanism to administer sponsored medical research funds. We offer a single low cost 15% administrative fee. The investigators to whom the funds were awarded or donated direct how their funds are spent and are allowed more flexibility than under Federal guidelines.
