The Durham VA celebrated Research Week in style this year because there is so
much exciting work to celebrate. With over $31 million in research expenditures
last fiscal year, the Durham VA Medical Center boasts an impressive body of
research. Conducted by more than 140 Research Investigators, there were over 450
research projects last year alone.
The week culminated with Research Day on Wednesday, March 4. Posters
representing work done by nearly 50 investigators were on display in the walkway
from the parking deck to the first floor of the main hospital. Investigators
were available from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm to discuss their work and its
particular relevance to Veterans. An information booth was available in the
medical center main lobby with the latest information regarding VA research and
giveaways including band-aid holders, pillboxes, and other creative items to
promote VA research.
Nearly 400 employees, visitors and patients celebrated VA Research Day with most
picking up valuable information about research.
“Research Service employees, IMR Staff, and our researchers did a real nice job
putting together an excellent display of what VA Research does and how it
relates to our Veterans,” said Brad Olson, Administrative Office for Research.
“Research Week gives us an opportunity to brag about the great work we do here
in Durham,” he added. There is a lot being done right here on the Durham VA
Medical Center Campus and this week everyone got a chance to learn about it.
Soon the Durham VA Medical Center campus will be home to a new research
building. To learn more about it,
